A cheerful sans with an uneven, controlled rhythm: terminals and bars smile, every running letter lands a little higher or lower than its neighbour, and the ornaments are part of the alphabet.

  • Four weights, Regular to Black, each with an italic; static TTF and WOFF2, no variable build.
  • The lilt is calt (on by default): a-z letters cycle plain, up and tilted forward, down and tilted back. ss02 (Swing) doubles the amplitude; calt off gives steady text.
  • Features: calt, ss02, ss01, dlig (:) ;) <3 -> <- <-> ***), ornm (alternates for * and the bullet), kern, liga, case, tnum/pnum, lnum/onum, smcp/c2sc, zero, frac, sups/subs/sinf/numr/dnom, mark, ccmp.
  • Latin only: Basic Latin, Latin-1, Latin Extended-A, Romanian comma-below, punctuation, currency, arrows, math basics, ornaments.
  • Unhinted prototype; Black is the roughest cut; not offered for redistribution.

From Origin: lilt/README.md, lilt/DESIGN-BRIEF.md

Known limitations

  • Unhinted: relies on the rasteriser's own anti-aliasing. Windows GDI aliased rendering below about 11 px will look uneven.
  • Four weights only (Regular, Medium, Bold, Black), each with a sheared italic carrying drawn exit strokes on d i l u. No variable build.
  • Black is the roughest cut: the skeletons were drawn for the lighter weights, so e, f, s, @ and the section sign need a pen thinned by rule and still show small joins.
  • Spacing and kerning are computed (optical area method, class kerning with a collision floor) and checked on proof sheets; expect pairs a hand kerner would change. Capital pairs such as IJ and FG are on the tight side.
  • Latin only: Basic Latin, Latin-1, Latin Extended-A except U+0149 and U+017F, Romanian comma-below. No Vietnamese, no stacked accents, no mkmk.
  • Small caps, oldstyle figures, superiors and fractions are generated from the same skeletons at reduced size with a lightened pen, not redrawn by hand; oldstyle 3 4 5 7 9 are the weakest.
  • Symbols (ampersand, at, section, braces, arrows, cloud, notes) are functional first drafts; the faces, hearts, stars, sun and flowers are the most finished ornaments.
  • The name Lilt has not been checked against trademarks or font catalogues (Lilt is also the name of a translation company).

The designer's own list, copied unchanged from the font's hand-off manifest.
