For iconstructa5 cuts · v2.000
An 18-segment instrument alphabet. Capitals light chamfered, lens-faceted bars over a faint ghost layer of unlit segments; lowercase is the same letter knocked out of a split-flap card, so A and a are one letter in two modes. Segment, Segment Bold, Flap and Text (proportional and mono) cuts, plus a Ghost layer.

- Six cuts: Segment Regular and Bold (lit capitals, flap-card lowercase), Flap (every character on a card), Text and Text Mono (no slit, for 14 to 24 px) and a Ghost layer that prints under Segment.
- Features: ss01 mode (capitals and cards swap for the same text), ss02 plain 16-segment readings of A B D K Q, ss03 blink-off colon, zero (slashed zero), tnum, case (Text), calt (-> <- => <= as arrows), kern (Text), mark/mkmk.
- Basic Latin, Latin-1, Latin Extended-A, arrows, geometric and transport symbols, box drawing and blocks, plus instrument glyphs (battery, signal, mode dial) in the private use area; Latin only.
- Unhinted prototype; the lens slit turns to a hairline below about 30 px (use Text); not offered for redistribution.

Known limitations
- S and 5 (and O and 0) share one segment set; they are told apart by context, as in every segment display. B, D, K, A, Q have a hybrid default and a plain ss02 reading; the plain B and D are still easy to confuse with 8, 0 and 3.
- The lens slit is 7 units wide (6 in Bold) and turns to a grey hairline below about 30 px; use Text under 24 px. Flap and the Segment lowercase keep the hairline slit and hinge notches at every size, so they are noisy below about 32 px.
- Segment Bold is heavy: at 118-unit bars the 22-unit gaps close up and the hexagon tips blob below about 40 px. It is a layer and display cut, not a text weight.
- Segment, Bold and Flap are not mono: all letters, figures and most symbols share a 600-unit cell, but brackets, quotes, dots and the like are narrower (tnum makes the dots cell width). fontbakery's monospace heuristic fires on this; it is waived.
- Text lowercase is a separate drawing (x-height 520, ascenders and descenders from segment strokes), not the flap-card forms; l, I, 1 and | are close, w is a zig-zag, a and g are the weakest letters. It is dense and loud at 14 px.
- The Ghost layer is empty under lowercase cards, arrows, geometric symbols and instrument glyphs (unlit segments make no sense there), and its diagonals (j k l m, V) add noise: keep it at 8 to 14 percent of the ink.
- Flap loses case on its own: A and a are the same card. Only ss01 and the text itself carry the case.
- Kerning (Text only) is computed from outline profiles and class based on the base letter (accented forms share their base's class); it is not tuned pair by pair. Segment and Mono cuts have no kerning by design.
- Marks: accents are drawn as small segments at fixed heights over a base; ď ť ľ Ľ use a tick placed 80 units inside the right edge; no stacked Vietnamese marks, no Latin Extended-B beyond dotless j; mark attachment points are the glyph centres.
- Text Mono omits IJ ij ʼn (they need two cells); its em and en spaces are one cell wide.
- Box drawing and blocks are plain rectangles (not segments) and join only at line-height normal; there are no shades beyond three dot patterns.
- Unhinted (smart dropout via gasp only). 'Lumel' is the family name of the previous dot-matrix face; this version replaces it and no trademark clearance was done.
The designer's own list, copied unchanged from the font's hand-off manifest.
